Obeying the Law Cannot Save You from Sin

July 21, 2017

I grew up as a young Samoan girl despising the word “sin”. Due to sin we were all born into a world of laws, and for me, such laws were: having to go to church, having to do chores, having to go to school, having to obey my parents not only because I love them to death, but merely because it says in the Ten Commandments Exodus20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you“. I believed that to show God I love Him, I must obey His Commandments pointblank , and I did so by going to church every Sunday, Sunday school, Bible studies, Choir practice, etc. My reasons for going were due to the most used responses of  “you have to do it”, “So God can forgive your sins” and if I’m being honest, I wasn’t given much of a choice not to. Doing all of that did not save me one bit from an ounce of sin. I mean, have you heard of the Pharisees in Jesus’ time? There is no law, no act, no charity, no therapy session, no drug, and no one that can save you from sin. As it is not the law that can save you, but Jesus Christ our Savior. I no longer go to church because of the false responses, but because I owe everything to God and I want nothing more than to Praise His Name, for He is mine and I am His.

Romans 5:18, “Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” If you’re like me, I would have to read the verse one too many times to surely understand it. This verse is stating that we are not sinners because we sin. We sin, because of Adam’s sin. So, maybe if he didn’t sin, we wouldn’t be sinning? (food for thought). Let me break it down for you: …as through one man’s (Adam’s) offense judgment came to all men (You+Me), resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s (Jesus Christ’s) righteous act the free gift came to all men (You+Me),resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s (Adam) disobedience many (You+Me) were made sinners, so also by one Man’s (Jesus Christ) obedience many (You+Me) will be made righteous. Isn’t that crazy? I.can’t.even. With this, we should no longer condemn ourselves, because Jesus Christ took YOUR place and mine on the cross. The cross is not yours to carry, it is no longer yours to hold. God loves you SO much that He sent His one and only Begotten Son to die on the cross for your sins of the past, present AND future. Romans 7:4 states, “you have become dead to the law through the body of Christ“. In Christ, the law is inadmissible and we are alive in Him. 2Cor.5:21, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” My friend, only Jesus Christ our Lord can save you from sin, nothing else.

Declare your Praise of the Day, “I am the righteousness in Christ!”

Yours Truly
